Shree Dasha Porwal Jain Samaj primarily resides in the southern part of Rajasthan, specifically in the following regions: –

2. Mewar region- Salumbar, Udaipur, etc., the northern part of Vagad,
3. Malwa region- (areas of Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan),- Salamgarh, Pratapgarh, Indore, Bhopal, Dewas, etc., south-east and east of Vagad
4. Gujarat region - Settled in the district of Panchmahal -Dahod, Mora, Santarampur, etc, west and south of Vagad. According to a rough estimate, the total number of families in the community is 700 and the total population is estimated around 3000.
Mass pilgrimages, Swamivatsalyas, marriage programs, monthly Bhaktamar Path, and social gatherings conducted by the people of the community on various occasions are certainly memorable and enjoyable. Apart from this, the “Dhwaja” program is organized every year on the anniversary of Jain temples in almost every town and village of the community. The original residents of the village or town who have settled outside also participate in this event.
It is the result of the community's deep faith in religion that in the last 50 years, ten (10) sisters of our community from Salamgarh and one (1) sister from Motagaon took Diksha in Shwetambar Jain Sagar Samuday. They have sacrificed the materialistic world and dedicated their life to the principles of Tirthankara Mahavir and moved forward on the path of salvation. Apart from this, one of our sisters from Mumbai has made her life successful and meaningful by dedicating her life to Brahma Kumari Ishwariya Vidyalaya on the path of salvation and spreading the message of spiritual life to the people in the country and abroad.
Economic condition: Over the extended periods of socio-economic upheavals, our community faced many challenges. Through relentless hard work, wisdom, intellectual abilities, adherence to ethical principles, and maintaining hope amid adversities, our society has consistently excelled and elevated its standard of living.
Our community is mainly associated with businesses grocery, agro-products, financing, clothes, jewelry, etc. Many people of the community migrated to cities like Mumbai, Indore, Ahmedabad, etc. for businesses and jobs and because of their hard work, foresight, determination, and disciplined life, today they have achieved new heights of prosperity and have helped their compatriots.
To promote education, hostel facilities for higher education have been established in Udaipur and Mumbai, for the children of the community who come from different regions to pursue higher studies. This initiative aims to ensure that the younger generation receives higher education and opportunities for growth, fostering a bright future for themselves and contributing to the progress of the community."
The native languages of Shree Dasha Porwal Samaj have mainly been Vagdi, Malvi, Mewari, Gujarati, and Hindi as per the local influence. Even today, these languages are used in mutual conversations in the community with intimacy and fostering a sense of unity. However, people moving away from their native areas due to professional, educational, and job pursuits, especially in the new generation, are more likely to speak Hindi and other local languages in their homes rather than their mother tongue. If we remain connected to our mother tongue, we can experience a special sense of belonging and the satisfaction of preserving our precious heritage. It is expected from every sensitive parent and senior member of the community that we should teach our original mother tongue Vagdi, Malvi, Mewari, and Gujarati to our children and use them more and more in home-family relations.
Shree Dasha Porwal Samaj is largely Shwetambar Jain with some families hailing from the Vaishnav sect, who have had a close relationship with each other since the early times. An amazing coordination of mutual closeness and harmony is seen in them in the form of long-term social and business relationships. Our community is an exemplary example of unity in professional, cultural, religious, marital, social, naming, food, lifestyle, and customs. Common surnames of the community are Gandhi, Kothari, Shah, Seth, Patwa, Mehta, Modi, Bhandari, Ghatiya, Gujarati, Jagawat, Ukavat etc.
Present dimensions of the community: Recognizing the significance of commerce, our community has ventured into various professions despite facing numerous challenges. Today, with a focus on education, our society has made substantial contributions to the country by producing chartered accountants, engineers, doctors, scientists, lawyers, and entrepreneurs. Despite facing various difficulties, many of our children and families have established themselves in countries such as America, Europe, Australia, Kuwait, Nigeria, etc., making significant contributions and shaping the society in various fields."
Our community has also made all-around development by adopting science, technology, digitalization, software, etc., and it is moving towards development while keeping up pace with the country. In this sequence, the launch of Sakal Samaj's website on the auspicious occasion of Swamivatsalya in Nakodadham is a very proud and historic moment for the community, the benefit of which will continue to be availed by the entire community in the times to come.
In appreciation of the efforts put into developing the website, heartfelt congratulations and best wishes are extended to all associated with it. (Published on October 8, 2023)
